چکیده

T h e n u m b e r o f resistance genes in soybean to soybean cyst nematode (SCN) Heterodera glycines was est imated using progeny f rom a cross of 'Williams 82' x 'Hartwig' (derived f rom 'Forrest '~ x PI 437.654) screened with a four th-genera t ion inbred nematode line der ived f rom a race 3 field popula t ion o f SCN. Numbers o f females developing on roots o f inoculated seedlings were assigned to pheno type cells (resistant, susceptible, or segregating) using Ward 's min imum variance cluster analysis. T h e ratio obtained f rom screening 220 F s soybean families was not significantly d i f fe rent f rom a 1:8:7 (resistant:segregating:susceptible) ratio, suggesting a two-gene system for resistance. T h e ratio obtained f rom screening 183 F 2 plants was not significantly d i f fe ren t f rom a 3:13 (resistant:susceptible) ratio, indicating both a dominan t (Rhg) and a recessive (rhg) resistance gene.

Diversity Among a Heterodera glycines Field Isolate and Derived Inbreds Based on RAPD Analysis and Reproduction on Soybean Genotypes.

A field population of Heterodera glycines was inbred by a combination of controlled male-female matings and inoculation of soybean with second-stage juveniles (J2) from single cysts. The initial and four F inbred populations were subjected to random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis and were also tested for their ability to reproduce on race differentials. The RAPD patterns of the inbred popul...

Selection Against Heterodera glycines Males by Soybean Lines with Genes for Resistance.

Soybeans with genes for resistance select against Heterodera glycines with the corresponding genes for avirulence. There may be a differential effect of sex with some specific gene interactions, which would influence the magnitude of gene frequency changes. No effect on H. glycines males was detected with one selected nematode population and the resistant soybean line PI88788. The selective eff...

Selection of Heterodera glycines chorismate mutase-1 alleles on nematode-resistant soybean.

The soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines is the most destructive pathogen of soybean in the Unites States. Diversity in the parasitic ability of the nematode allows it to reproduce on nematode-resistant soybean. H. glycines chorismate mutase-1 (Hg-CM-1) is a nematode enzyme with the potential to suppress host plant defense compounds; therefore, it has the potential to enhance the parasitic...

The Effect of Resistant Soybean on Male and Female Development and Adult Sex Ratios of Heterodera glycines.

To determine whether currently used sources of resistance (soybean Plant Introductions [PI] 548402, 88788, 90763, 437654, 209332, 89772, and 548316) influence sex ratios in H. glycines, four inbred lines of the nematode characterized by zero or high numbers of females on resistant soybean were used to observe the number of adult males produced. Nematodes were allowed to infect soybean roots for...

Genetic analysis of parasitism in the soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines.

A genetic analysis of parasitic ability in the soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines was performed. To identify and characterize genes involved in parasitism, we developed three highly inbred H. glycines lines, OP20, OP25 and OP50, for use as parents for controlled crosses. Through these crosses, we have identified genes in the inbred parents that control reproduction of the nematode on hos...
